Avoid Being Scammed when Buying Diamond Jewelry

Posted by OtherAuthor

Diamond jewelry has long been associated with prestige and glamour. It used to be that only the wealthy could afford diamond jewelry; it was a rarity to own it back then. Today everyone wants some of their own bling and for the most part people are able to get it.

With so many diamonds available consumers have to be extra cautious not to get ripped off. To the naked eye low quality or flawed diamonds are difficult to recognize. When shopping for diamond jewelry follow these tips to ensure that you re getting what you really want and are paying for.

Diamond Color
Paying attention to diamond color is important. At first glance you may think a diamond is colorless but this is not always the case. Because colorless diamonds are extremely expensive many people purchase near colorless or faint yellow diamonds.

Diamond colors are usually graded on a scale ranging from D-Z. D would be completely colorless and Z would be more yellow. If you re having a hard time telling the colors apart, ask the jeweler you re working with to compare some of them for you. Then you ll be able to see the real difference between the colors.

Colorless diamonds aren t the only popular diamonds when it comes to diamond jewelry. Diamonds naturally come in many colors and people pay a lot of money for them. But be careful when shopping for a colored diamond. There are a lot of people out there that are just waiting to fool you. There are plenty of tricks out there that people use in order to make you think that you ve purchased a naturally colored diamond. If you find one that you like take it to a reputable jeweler before putting out any amount of money.

Diamond Clarity
Clarity of a diamond is another important aspect of purchasing diamond jewelry. The higher the clarity of your diamond, the better it will look and the more expensive it will be. Most people walking around with diamonds on are not wearing a completely flawless diamond. This is because they re extremely expensive and very rare.

The majority of people that have a decent diamond probably have a very, very slight or very slight imperfection in their diamond. The imperfections on these diamonds are difficult to see using the naked eye. Though they have slight flaws they still make for a beautiful piece of jewelry.

Unless your eye is trained to find these flaws you may not even recognize them. It s smart to get accustomed to diamonds before you purchase one. Look around at many different jewelry stores and ask to see all of the different grades of flawed diamonds. This will get you ready to spot flaws in the diamonds when you re shopping around.

Don t just go out and blindly buy diamond jewelry. Though it may sparkle and look stunning you don t want to get ripped off. Whether you re buying it for yourself or to give as a gift you want to get the best possible diamonds you can get for your money. There are too many scam artists out there waiting to make a quick buck off of you. Prepare yourself so that when you find that perfect piece of diamond jewelry to hang elegantly around her neck, she s really getting what she deserves.

The Colored Gemstone Education - Citrine: Versatile, Affordable and Golden Yellow

Posted by OtherAuthor

Citrine is the most affordable of all the earth toned gemstones, thank to its durability and availability. It has become increasingly popular with budget minded sophisticated woman looking to expand their work and leisure jewelry wardrobes.

Citrine, a from of quartz, derives its name from the French word for lemon, Citron. It is available in a range of golden hues from lemon to straw to sun yellow to gold, as well as oranges, browns, and deep madeira red. It is generally more inexpensive than Amethyst and is also available in a wide range of calibrated sizes and shapes, including very large sizes.

Citrine s lively colors can brighten almost any jewelry style, and it blends especially well with yellow gold. Its low cost makes it an ideal stone for popular free form fancy cuts for one-of-a-kind and customized pieces. And, good cut is as important in determining Citrine s quality as it is for more expensive yellow counterparts, such as Yellow Sapphire.

As with other stones, Citrine in very large sizes, above 3 carats, in rich, deep colors has always been rare and therefore the most valuable form of the gem. Although, this stone s dark orange and red shades traditionally have been the most prized, its bright lemony hues have become very popular in recent years, because they mix better with pastel colors.

In ancient times, Citrine was carried as a protection against snake venom and evil thoughts. It was also thought to give calmness and mental balance to its wearer.

Citrine is the birthstone for month of November, and it is recommended jewelry gift for couples who are celebrating their 13th wedding anniversary.

Most Citrine is mined in Brazil. Supplies are most plentiful in the Brazillian state of Rio Grande Do Sul, particularly from the Serra mine. The Ira s mine also produces large quantities of the gem.

These stones generally start life as either smoky quartz or Amethyst geodes. Heat treatments first turn them clear and then give them a permanent color ranging from yellow to brownish red.

Sometimes, Citrine is referred to as Topaz quartz, which is incorrect. The name refers to color, which is sometimes similar to Topaz. But, since Topaz is a separate mineral, the name could be confusing and should not be used.

Occasional, Mother Nature combines the colors of Amethyst and Citrine into a single gemstone called Ametrine.

With a ranking of 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness, from 1 - 10, with 10 representing a diamond, the hardest mineral on earth, Citrine has excellent durability and is suitable for everyday wear. However, since much of the Citrine on the market today has been heat treated to improve its color, it should be kept away from prolonged exposure to strong light ot heat.

How To Care For Your Swarovski Crystal Wedding Jewelry

Posted by OtherAuthor

I have found that when you wear crystals on a daily basis they tend to lose a little bit of their luster. Let’s face it, the reason why we choose Swarovski is because they are top of the line. There is nothing in the market that will catch your eye and sparkle quite like a Swarovski crystal.

But if you wear crystals over a period of time you may find that they appear to be a little bit dull, not quite as bright as the day that you brought them home. I am going to talk about 2 very simple and inexpensive solutions that you can do at home to keep the brilliance in the jewelry that you love so much.

Most of the things that will take away from the beauty of a crystal are from everyday activities that most women do to take care of ourselves. Hairspray, lotions, make-up, and even oils from our skin can sit on the surface of each facet and mute the brilliance that really makes Swarovski crystal jewelry so unique.

The good news is that it is not difficult or expensive to maintain this beauty. You will find that a lot of the ingredients that I suggest, you probably already have in the house or can easily be purchased at any grocery or convenience store and you won’t break your wallet.

My personal favorite is one that a lot of people carry around with them already, Baby Wipes!!! You will be amazed at how easy it is to restore the shine in your crystals by simply holding a wipe between your thumb and a few fingers and rolling the crystals back and fourth once or twice and move along, continuing the process until you have cleaned all of them. Once you have finished, dry them off with a clean cotton cloth or a tissue, just be sure that it is a plain tissue not the kind that contain lotion.

Another simple way to maintain the brilliance of your Swarovski crystals is to make a solution that contains water, rubbing alcohol, and dish soap, it is a very easy and non-abrasive way to get all the hairspray, facial oils and other things off of the surface of your Swarovski crystal jewelry and restore that incredible sparkle.

In a plastic container that has a sealing lid, add 3/4 cups of water, 1 tablespoon of rubbing alcohol, and 1/2 tablespoon of dish soap. Close the lid and shake thoroughly to mix the ingredients. Then place your jewelry in the solution and replace the lid. You will only need to eave it in there for one or two minutes, I would not recommend longer than that unless it is necessary. While your crystals are soaking GENTLY swirl the container for 30 seconds and then let it sit for the remaining minute. Then remove your crystal jewelry and run it under warm water to remove the soap and dry it in a clean cotton cloth. It will look like you just bought it!
